Our Grade R

Application to Grade R

A child must be at least four years old to be registered for Grade R, and must turn at least five on 30 June of his Grade R year. While Grade R isn’t compulsory, the Department accepted a policy document in 2013 that could make it compulsory.(Universalisation of Grade R). When your Grade R child comes home from school, they can’t stop talking about the friends they made, games they played and the new things they learned that day. Attending Grade R classes, according to Dr Cristine Scolari, benefits the children in the following ways:

  •  They learn social skills which they need for interaction in the classroom and to make friends.

  •  It teaches them to respect authority, to follow teachers’ instructions and to control their emotions.

  • It lays a foundation for reading, writing and numeracy.

  • It helps to develop children’s hand-eye coordination and physical skills.

Parents whose children meet the above requirements, are encouraged to approach the school with the aim of registering their little one for the 2020 academic year. Parents must however take note that the space is limited and the school fees for the Grade is higher than that of Grade 1-7. For more details, parents must contact the school at (011) 316 1470.

Enrollment for Grade 1

Application for Grade 1

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is continuously looking at ways to simplify enrolment of learners in areas under its jurisdiction. As such, it has introduced an Online Application System that contributes towards modernization in schools (Pillar 6) – Be part of the transformation journey and apply online when such directives are communicated. For further information regarding Gauteng Department of Education Online Admissions process, please go to the following website: http://www.gdeadmissions.gov.za/

By now, parents who have applied for admission via the GDE Online Application System must have submitted documents as communicated by the department. The placement of learners of parents who complied with the requirements will commence soon. Placement offers will be sent to parents via SMS. It must be noted that placement offers will NOT be sent to ALL parents on the same day, as the Department will be processing offers systematically on a daily basis in line with the order of application criteria outlined in the Admissions Regulations.

Parents are therefore urged to remain calm and wait for a placement offer.
